Grammy Award-winning musical artist Darius Rucker has joined Legacy Motor Club as an investor, the organization announced on March 25.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rucker revealed the announcement live on “The Dan Patrick Show,” telling Patrick, “We can now announce that I am one of the investors of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB… It’s cool. You know how much I love motorsports. You know how much I’ve loved NASCAR for years, so this is pretty cool for me.”

“Darius is someone who understands the power of connection – with fans, with communities and through storytelling,” LMC owner Jimmie Johnson said in a team release. “What he’s built in music, the authenticity he brings to everything he does aligns directly with who we are as a CLUB. We’re excited to welcome him into LEGACY and to build something meaningful together.
“From day one, this has been about building a CLUB that people want to be part of. Darius brings a different lens, a creative mindset and a passion for people that will help us continue to grow in new ways.”
As an investor, Rucker will collaborate with the organization on select initiatives that bridge sports, music and fan engagement, LMC stated.
Furthermore, the release noted that the organization is planning on announcing further investors in the near future. NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty also serves as a team ambassador, previously having an ownership in the team.
Owned by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Johnson, LMC fields two full-time entries, the Nos. 42 and 43 Toyota, driven by John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones. Johnson also runs the No. 84 Toyota on a part-time basis.
Through six races, Jones is 24th in the point standings with two top 10s, one spot ahead of Nemechek.
Johnson previously confirmed that LMC will field three full-time entries in 2027, though the team has not announced its driver lineup.
Since the team was rebranded as Legacy in 2023, it has nine top fives and 29 top 10s in 243 starts.
Legacy has to be the most top heavy team in racing. Every few weeks last season they were announcing another new management hire or partner. We’re only a couple weeks into a new season and Johnson’s already announcing more big names to Legacy’s ownership/management team. They’ve added all of these partners, managers, consultants, etc, but their cars don’t ever seem to get better. Maybe it’s time Johnson thinks about hiring some new mechanics and engineers instead. 23XI went with a JGR association and they were quick out of the box, but Johnson decided to go on his own. It’s now been three years since switching to Toyota’s and his cars are still floundering mid pack (on good weekends).
