Helio Castroneves will attempt to make the 2026 Indianapolis 500 with Meyer Shank Racing, piloting the No. 06 Cleveland-Cliffs Honda, the team announced on X on March 17.

“The drive for five is still alive!” Castroneves stated on X. “We’re going to be ready for the Indy 500. Let’s get ready together.”

If Castroneves makes the race, it will be his 26th Indy 500 start, and he will be aiming for his fifth Indy 500 win. Castroneves previously won the race three times with Team Penske in 2001, 2002, and 2009. His last Indy 500 win was in 2021 with Meyer Shank Racing.

Castroneves has 25 career wins and 84 podiums overall in the NTT IndyCar Series. His last start was the 2025 Indy 500, where he finished 10th driving the No. 06 for Meyer Shank Racing.

The 2026 Indy 500, where Castroneves will attempt his next scheduled start, is slated to take place on Sunday, May 24.

    • Maybe. But he did finish 10th last year. 2023 and 2024 weren’t great at 20th and 15th. I think he was 7th in 2022. Not terrible for running a non-Penske / Ganassi car only once a year.

I kinda think the same of Sato. He generally does pretty well for running only one race per year these days. Who knows, one of them might get lucky and take another win this year!
