It took a while to get to the front, but Kyle Larson once again showed off his dominance at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Saturday’s (March 14) The LiUNA!. Larson made the winning pass with 47 laps to go on the final restart. He started the race with a tight race car, but he was able to get to the front when it mattered most.
“My car was not handling the best at all,” Larson told The CW. “That last restart I had a good launch… I was glad I was able to work through traffic well.”
The win was Larson’s second career O’Reilly Series win at Las Vegas and the 18th of his career.
Chase Briscoe finished runner-up, rebounding from an unscheduled pit stop that left him a lap down midway through the race. Sheldon Creed finished in third, while Justin Allgaier finished fourth after sweeping the stages and leading a race-high 48 laps.
Sammy Smith finished fifth, followed by Jesse Love in sixth. Connor Zilisch, Corey Day, William Sawalich and Austin Hill rounded out the top-10 finishers.
Christopher Bell Wins Cup Pole at Las Vegas
Pole sitter Sam Mayer led 32 laps early on in the race, but he briefly had to go behind the wall at the end of stage one after a fuel pickup issue his car sustained. Mayer ended up finishing in 35th, four laps down.
Creed made contact with Taylor Gray while battling for second during the final stage. Gray ended up in the outside wall and out of the race, finishing in 37th.
“I just got into him while I was trying to pack some air,” Creed told The CW. “I didn’t know he was that close to the No. 17; I could’ve cut him more of a break there.”
Allgaier retains the points lead over Love by 13 points with 19 races left in the O’Reilly Series regular season.
Las Vegas O’Reilly Results
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will return to action Saturday, March 21, at Darlington Raceway at 5:30 p.m. ET for the sixth race of the season. Coverage of this race will be broadcast on The CW.
