Will Power and Christian Rasmussen were set to fight for the win during Saturday’s (March 7) NTT IndyCar Series race at Phoenix Raceway before the two made contact coming out of turn 2, ending Power’s day.
Power spoke to both Rasmussen and the owner of Rasmussen’s No. 21 Chevrolet, Ed Carpenter, after the race. Power offered an apology to both men, taking responsibility for the contact. Frontstretch‘s Bryan Nolen was on-site to capture the exchanges on video.
Nolen also spoke with Rasmussen individually, who said that Power’s apology did not change the result and that he told Power, “he knows what he can expect if he’s on my outside.”
Power, for his part, suggested it may have been in his best interest to yield to Rasmussen, but said he thought that holding the No. 21 driver up for a few laps would balance out the tire advantage held by Rasmussen.
